Alumni Volunteers Needed for New Student Send-Offs
The Cal Poly Alumni Association is looking for alumni volunteers to help support regional New Student Send-Offs this summer. New Student Send-Offs are a great way to welcome students into the Cal Poly community. These events bring together incoming students and their parents/supporters, alumni, and campus partners to celebrate an important milestone in students' lives.
New Student Send-Offs showcase what it means to be Cal Poly Proud and usually take place in public parks to allow new students to make connections with others from their hometowns and regions before heading off to Cal Poly. It's also a chance for them to hear about the Cal Poly experience first-hand and ask questions of Cal Poly graduates and/or current students. Parents and supporters can meet and network with others and ask questions about different aspects of Cal Poly life, such as housing, move-in day, clubs and living in San Luis Obispo.
"Send-Off events help welcome incoming students into the Cal Poly community and often are the first in-person touchstone with the university before they embark on the next chapter of their educational journey," said Jennifer Fanning, Senior Director of Alumni Engagement. "It's exciting for students, parents, and alumni volunteers to attend these, and in the past, we've had upwards of 100 people attend events in some locations."
These events offer alumni an opportunity to connect with the Cal Poly community in their region and share memories of their time at Cal Poly with incoming students and their supporters. Communities in Northern, Southern, and Central California as well as the Seattle area host these events at various locations in late July and early August. Events typically last two hours.
These events rely on the help of alumni volunteers, who help host, set up, clean up, and share insights from their own Cal Poly experiences. Volunteer shifts for these events usually last around four hours. More information about these events will be released in July.
