PolyLink, Cal Poly's Online Community
PolyLink, Cal Poly's Online Community, is here.
PolyLink is the free, secure private online community for all Cal Poly alumni, regardless of whether they are members of the Cal Poly Alumni Association.
If you're a Cal Poly alum, watch your e-mail basket in August and your September Cal Poly Magazine for details and your personalized first-time log-in code.
GOLD alumni – Graduates Of the Last Decade – are already asking when they can sign in to PolyLink. Other alumni are asking what it is.
If you're wondering, "What's an online community?" here are some answers:
What is PolyLink -- and what's an online community?
PolyLink is a secure, private, protected web site open only to alumni and select Cal Poly staff. Access to PolyLink is free.
PolyLink is first and foremost a place for career networking, Mustang to Mustang. Alumni will be able to make contact with other Cal Poly alumni from a wide variety of career levels and professional experiences across all fields of business and industry – all with the same respect for Cal Poly’s “Learn by Doing” tradition. Not to mention Cal Poly’s strong tradition of hiring Cal Poly grads!
It’s a place where professionally established alumni will be able to sign up to give career advice and tips to young alumni.
Plans call for adding faculty to the PolyLink community soon, so alumni can easily get in touch with their favorite professors, coaches and mentors. In the next phase, PolyLink will be opened to current juniors and seniors -- the university's "almost alums."
PolyLink is also a place for alumni to look up old friends from clubs and classes, exchange messages, and reconnect.
What can I do when I sign in to PolyLink?
Cal Poly alumni of all decades will be able to sign in, look up fellow alums, send instant notes and private e-mails to catch up with old friends, view friends’ online photo galleries and personal pages, and see what they’ve been up to -- and network online with other Mustangs.
Alumni will also be able to post their own class notes, photos and professional updates on PolyLink.
You can also sign up to receive Cal Poly-specific news, either via e-newsletters sent to the e-mail address of your choosing, or by "feeds" which will appear when you Log-in to the community -- or both.
PolyLink will also feature an Events Calendar full of details on alumni mixers, dinners, sporting events, outings, hikes and other activities throughout California, the West -- and beyond.
Through the PolyLink Events Calendar, you'll be able to easily register for those events -- and check on who else is signed up to attend.
Alumni can also start PolyLink group pages and connect on PolyLink bulletin boards. Connect with old friends and new generations from clubs like the Rose Float and Logging teams, the Poly Penguins, and more.
Don't see your favorite club or any interest groups on PolyLink that appeal to you? You can start one!
What about career networking?
Will this help me get a job or find a good grad or intern to hire?
On the PolyLink Career Center bulletin boards, alumni will be able to post information about job openings and internships at their companies and businesses – giving current students and fellow alums an inside line on career prospects, co-ops and internships.
On their personal pages, alumni can sign up to be available as a mentor and post advice.
Looking for a new job? You can set your personal page information to display your resume information, where you're looking to move -- and even your desired salary. Then watch the PolyLink Career Center message boards for any job openings posted by fellow alumni.
How many people will have access to PolyLink?
When the community opens its doors this fall, it will contain the names and graduation years only for approximately 120,000 alumni contained in Cal Poly's database.
That list includes 40,000 alumni with e-mail addresses – likely to be among the first to Log-in to PolyLink.
If your name is not among the 120,000 on the PolyLink list, you may be one of our “lost” alumni. You will be directed to an online form to submit your name and information for verification and addition to the PolyLink alumni list & community.
What if I don't want anyone signed in to PolyLink to see my contact information? Or my personal page?
All 120,00 alumni in Cal Poly's database will have their first name, last name, and grad year listed in PolyLink. That information can only be seen by alumni (and soon, faculty) after they sign in to PolyLink and become members. It will never be available to the general public.
Aside from last name, first name and class year, as a PolyLink member, you will control what other information you want to display to your fellow classmates and professors after they log in to PolyLink. Fill out your Personal Profile form to include as much (or as little) of your contact and other information as you'd like.
PolyLink also offers an Event Calendar which will soon allow online event RSVPs, registration, and ticket purchasing.
One function of the event calendar includes the choice to add yourself to the public “attendees” list for any event for which you register.
If you register, RSVP or buy tickets for an event but do not want your name to appear on the list of attendees, you can always chose to opt out of the event attendees list display.
What about photos?
On PolyLink, alumni can add photos and create photo albums about your family, friends, and travel -- as many photos and as many photo albums as you want.

Be sure to upload any photos of alumni or family members wearing Cal Poly gear!
Remember, only PolyLink members will be allowed to see your personal page, its photos and the private areas of the PolyLink community -- which make up the majority of the PolyLink site.
Do I have to be a member of the Cal Poly Alumni Association to use PolyLink?
The Cal Poly Alumni Online Community is free and open to all Mustang alumni – regardless of whether they are members of the Cal Poly Alumni Association or not. Plans also call for special guest memberships for faculty and retired faculty and staff members – so alumni can stay in touch with favorite professors and Cal Poly mentors.
I went to Cal Poly but I didn't finish my degree. Can I still use PolyLink?
Cal Poly considers all former students who satisfactorily completed one year of coursework to be Cal Poly Alumni. PolyLink is open to all Cal Poly alumni -- regardless of degree status.
If you went to Cal Poly but did not graduate or do not see yourself among the list of 120,000 alumni on PolyLink, visit this CPAA Web page and enter your contact information (Type “Verify for PolyLink” in the “comments” box before you hit the “submit button”):
